USIEA’s mission iα✘>₩ncludes building an Internati∞♠<onal Education Curricul★₩um for Chinese universities t←βo help encourage stud§ γ≤ent mobility. We hope that b >€€y providing a standard cur≠riculum for universities, students willβ¥ be better prepared to study abroad.
The curriculum, which was launched in 2♥÷013, is titled “Int±δ±↑ernational Education and Intercultural CommΩλ♦unication (the ‘Curriculum&₹ε∑™rsquo;)”. When developing the→π Curriculum, we planne↑δα≤d to create a critical reso •♠urce for Chinese schools, w€€hich incorporates knowledge from←α≥ expert lecturers working on the front liαnes of international educa¥∏↑tion both in China and abroad. This resour♥£ce is available to all of our Chinese m λember universities free of charge, and covers a w™≥♥↔ide range of topics related to study a•βbroad. The Curriculum §↕☆has been used as a resource by univ'✘ersity administrator∞'¶s to encourage students to go abroad, an×'♣★d to develop both pre-departure orien™→tations and re-entry interviews. ∑♦γ≤Our ultimate goal is t>★o provide students with a bas≠"ic understanding of study∏ ing abroad, prepare them ±↓♣for their study abroad experience, and to hel ≥p them develop essenti™σal skills while studying and "♣living abroad.
We appreciate the fact that in☆™≈ternational education and≥₩₩✘ study abroad varies widely based o&♦☆n the type of program. Th ←ere are non-credit prog∑§rams, full degree programs, and programs ra≈φ♣σnging in length from on¶ Ωe week to several years. It ☆≠is not possible to prov↕σide information on every type of progra↑®σm, each of which has its own un φ¥ique advantages and challenges.
USIEA focuses on study abroad opportunit¥♦ies which take into account our main audie¥↕±nce. The Curriculum focuses on underg♦≠ε§raduate university students planning to©γ≠λ study overseas after completing four years of s☆∞§tudy in China. The Curriculum highlights÷→→ the educational systems≥ε in major overseas study destinations, availabl ®e majors, institutional profiles, country h ✘ighlights, classroom culture, a varie€↕ty of pedagogical approaches, culture sho™®Ωck, and cross cultural co←₽×←mmunication. Teaching aids such as PowerP π♣÷oint presentations, a suggested reading list £ and real-life student case studies are in✘↑αcluded.
The curriculum was reviewed and updated >♣in 2015 based on feedbacks from lecturers and stu♦δ dents. Some chapters were re-writt$♥en with the "Flip class" concept ≈Ωand more case studies have been added ©₽×to the lesson plan.
The curriculum is now offered asΩ©€♦ an elective in a number of Chinese universit≠§y’s course dire¥₹ctory, and has become popular with¥↕≠ students.
